Description

Not the cheeriest piece in the world to come back with. A few shots like this, then back to shooting pictures of beautiful girls and guys. ;) Meri and I have a project lined up together. Should be interesting.

But there's a short story behind this piece and why i took this shot.

I was on a photography course a while ago. Dunno how many of you knew that.

We were given a task, a title to go and try and capture.

It was more than a litle gay to be honest. It was one of those bog standard things people do to have a fag break in.

Whatever.

There were a few rules.

1. Try to use several different techniques (ie Panning, short exposure, double exposure, whatever)
2. Try to be true to your brief.
3. Be back for 5 o'clock
4. No photos of homeless, disabled or disadvantaged people.

This was the first shot I took.

People in the street.

There's a whole catagory of photography devoted to taking pictures of people in the street.

Fuck the teacher who says I can't take a picture of a homeless person.

Fuck him.

He may be a nice guy, and a worthy photographer, and he may have one of the cameras I desire and some fast ass lens to go with it, but fuck him.

You aim, you focus, you shoot. You get it right, or you get it wrong.

And if he's telling me that shooting pictures of homeless people is wrong... fuck him.

They are as much a part of society as we are.

They deserve to be recognised. They deserve to be treated like anyone else on the street, and have their photo taken by the person with the camera in their hand.

So this was my defiance of Tim. I also used his card to get a 15% discount off paying for the development ;)

Injury to insult.

he never got to see this shot though.

I quit the course before that point. Wasn't what I was looking for ;)

Interesting vignetting.

All natural.

Tones are from warm tone paper it was printed onto. Gonna print this one up big. Really big.

And I'm going to put it up on my wall.

Reminds me that I'm lucky I guess.

I'll use the warm tone ilford paper we have at the lab in Berkhamsted.

I think I might get it framed as well. I'm definately going to do a border.

if anyone is interested in a copy then just send me a note or whatever.

I doubt you will be, but there you go.

Horizen annoys me. I'm off by a degree, right hand side is slightly above the left hand side. That's what you get for using a tube station floor as a stabilizer for the image.

Otherwise, the horizen is exactly halfway split. And some nice thirds are created by the edge of the wall and the door.

Love homeless people. Should give them more hugs.
